Deleting SmartApplets from NEOs
By following these steps, you can delete SmartApplets from NEOs. This is
helpful if you want to free space on the NEO or if you don’t plan to ever use a
specific SmartApplet. However, if you’re expecting to use the SmartApplet
again in the future, it may be better to disable the SmartApplet instead as
described on page 1-5 because reinstalling SmartApplets can take some time.
Important: If you remove some SmartApplets, such as AlphaQuiz or
KeyWords, you also remove any files associated with them. For example, if
you remove KeyWords, you also remove your students’ KeyWords work and
progress reports. If there is information on the NEOs that you want to save,
be sure to retrieve the data first.
You need AlphaSmart Manager installed on your computer to follow these
steps.
1. If you have a single NEO, use the USB cable that came with your NEO to
connect it to your computer.
If you have a SmartOption Mobile Lab with several NEOs make sure the
NEOs are connected to the appropriate cables in your cart, and make
sure your computer is connected to the cart.
2. Start AlphaSmart Manager on your computer.
3. Click the SmartApplets tab.
4. Click each SmartApplet you want to install or keep in the SmartApplets
List (
A on the next page), then click Add => to move it to the Install List
B. You should add all SmartApplets that you want on your NEOs,
including those that are already installed on the NEOs.
You can add the SmartApplets one at a time, or you can select multiple
SmartApplets by holding down the Ctrl key (Windows) or the key
(Macintosh) as you click SmartApplets. You can select a group of
SmartApplets by holding down the Shift key and clicking the first and last
SmartApplet in the group.
5. Check the box above the SmartApplet list
C to specify that all
SmartApplets that aren’t in the Install List should be deleted from NEOs.
Be careful not to
delete non-
SmartApplet items
that you want to keep. The
SmartApplet list includes the
fonts included on your NEO,
spell check, the Thesaurus,
Text2Speech Updater for
Text2Speech devices, and
Wireless File Transfer (NEO 2
only) for transferring files to
and from services such as
Google Docs.
