A LPHA Q UIZ
The AlphaQuiz SmartApplet allows students to take quizzes on their NEOs.
You can use the QuizDesigner program on your computer to create the quiz;
then, you can use the QuizManager program to send quizzes to NEOs and
receive and score their answers for automatic grading and reporting.
Quizzes can include true/false, multiple-choice, short answer, and essay
questions. They can also include assessment module questions if you
purchase an AlphaQuiz Curriculum Assessment Module.
AlphaQuiz is preinstalled on NEO 1 laptops, but not NEO 2 laptops. For
NEO 2, you can install AlphaQuiz from AlphaSmart Manager, and you can
download the QuizManager and QuizDesigner programs as part of the
AlphaQuiz suite from our Web site.
How AlphaQuiz Works
1. The teacher uses QuizDesigner to create a quiz on his or her computer.
2. The teacher connects the computer to NEOs using one of these methods:
• Connect the computer to a SmartOption Mobile Lab so you can send
the quiz to several NEOs at the same time.
• Connect the computer to individual NEOs one by one using a USB
cable.
3. The teacher sends the quiz to the student NEOs using QuizManager.
4. Students take the quiz on their NEOs in the AlphaQuiz SmartApplet.
5. Students connect their NEOs to the SmartOption Mobile Lab, or they
connect them to the computer one by one using a USB cable.
6. The teacher retrieves quiz responses into his or her computer using
QuizManager, which automatically grades true/false, multiple-choice, and
short answer questions. (Short Answer questions may not be graded
automatically if you didn’t enter answers when you created the quiz.)
7. The teacher grades any questions that were not graded automatically and
enters scores for those questions in QuizManager.
8. The teacher prints a Corrected Quiz Report for each student. The teacher
can also print a Quiz Summary and Statistics Report for his or her own
records.
