Other's
If you purchased "PAINTABLE" shutters -
you have received Flame Treated shutters.
We have done the “priming” already for you so you do not have to. The flame treating process makes
the pours of the plastic surface expand allowing the paint to stick.
• Use either latex or oil-based paint made for plastic.
• Follow the paint manufacturer's instructions.
• PAINTING OF FLAME TREATED SHUTTERS MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 30 DAYS OR PAINT MAY
NOT ADHERE
Note: Paint drying time will vary due to weather conditions. It may feel dry to the touch, but will not
be completely cured for 7-14 days. Do not attempt to peel or scratch the paint until it has completely
cured.
Instructions for painting Non-treated Shutters
Your shutters will need to be primed with a primer made for plastics. To achieve the best results, we
recommend the Kilz and Rust-Oleum brands. (Valspar and Rust-Oleum in the aerosol can also work
well for priming.)
• Apply the primer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• After waiting the required amount of time, paint can be applied to the shutters.
• Either an exterior latex or oil based paint that is made for plastic can be used.
• Paint should be applied according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Note: Paint drying time will vary due to weather conditions. It may feel dry to the touch, but will not be
completely cured for 7-14 days. Do not attempt to peel or scratch the paint until it has completely
cured.
Alpha System's Limited Lifetime Warranty does not cover the painting of or any paint
applied to the Shutters.
