TheiomegaSPUSBADAPTORletsyouaccessyournetworkusingawirelessconnectionfrom
virtuallyanywherewithintheoperatingrangeofyourwirelessnetwork.Keepinmind,however,
thatthenumber,thicknessandlocationofwalls,ceilings,orotherobjectsthatthewireless
signalsmustpassthrough,maylimittherange.Typicalrangesvarydependingonthetypesof
materialsandbackgroundRF(radiofrequency)noiseinyourhomeorbusiness.Thekeyto
maximizingwirelessrangeistofollowthesebasicguidelines:
1. Keepthenumberofwallsandceilingsbetweentheiomegaadapterandothernetwork
devicestoaminimum-eachwallorceilingcanreduceyouradapterʼsrangefrom3-90feet
(1-30meters.)Positionyourdevicessothatthenumberofwallsorceilingsisminimized.
2. Beawareofthedirectlinebetweennetworkdevices.Awallthatis1.5feetthick(.5meters),at
a45degreeangleappearstobealmost3feet(1meter)thick.Ata2degreeangleitlooksover
42feet(14meters)thick!Positiondevicessothatthesignalwilltravelstraightthroughawall
orceiling(insteadofatanangle)forbetterreception.
3. BuildingMaterialsmakeadifference.Asolidmetaldoororaluminumstudsmayhavea
negativeeffectonrange.Trytopositionaccesspoints,wirelessrouters,andcomputerssothat
thesignalpassesthroughdrywalloropendoorways.Materialsandobjectssuchasglass,steel,
metal,wallswithinsulation,water(shtanks),mirrors,lecabinets,brick,andconcretewill
degradeyourwirelesssignal.
4. Keepyourproductaway(atleast3-6feetor1-2meters)fromelectricaldevicesorappliances
thatgenerateRFnoise.
5. Ifyouareusing2.4GHzcordlessphonesorX-10(wirelessproductssuchasceilingfans,lights,
andhomesecuritysystems),yourwirelessconnectionmaydegradedramaticallyordrop
completely.Makesureyour2.4GHzphonebaseisasfarawayfromyourwirelessdevicesas
possible.Thebasetransmitsasignalevenifthephoneinnotinuse.
