Login ID – The assigned login name used to register with the remote site. For security purposes this should
be kept relatively secret. The peer site must also specify this same login name for the two Allworx servers to
successfully identify each other.
Password
– The assigned password used to register with the remote site. For security purposes this should
be kept secret and not easily guessed. The peer site must also specify the same password for the two
Allworx servers to successfully authenticate with each other.
Remote IP Address
– The public static IP address of the remote site. This is required so that the local Allworx
server knows how to contact the peer remote server.
Remote Extension Range
– This is the dialing prefix this local site uses to reach its peer site. The last three
digits of the 7-digit dialed number is always the 3 digit extension of the user you wish to reach at that remote
site. Many times administrators configure speed dial or PFK buttons on the phones to map to the 4-digit prefix
of commonly dialed sites.
8.5 Multi-Site Extensions
This feature, new with the 6.5 software releases, allows for the connection between remote sites to be
completed using a 3-digit extension instead of the pre-existing 7-digit number, which included the user’s
extension with a 4-digit prefix. Multi-Site extensions can be enabled by selecting the Allow multi-site
extensions checkbox on the Servers / VoIP page.
When an extension is dialed, the server queries its database for the extension’s call route. If a match cannot
be found, the server forwards the extension request to all known remote sites. If a remote site matches the
extension, it will exercise the call route for that extension and connect the site-to-site call when a party
answers. To use this feature effectively while avoiding misplaced calls, each site should have a unique set of
extensions (i.e. should not use the same extension on multiple servers).
For example, in a three-site installation, site one could use 100-130, site two could use 131-160, and site
three could use 160-190. Use this example as a basis for setting up system extensions as well. However, if
more extensions are needed that will cause overlapping between the remote sites, 7-digit dialing must be
used.
Note: The 3-digit multi-site capabilities are only applicable to certain portions of the dial plan:
