Configuration for the proper functioning of Conference Schedules
4.4 Queues/ Ring Groups
The call queue is one of the most advanced features of Asterisk. Queues used to distributes
incoming calls in the order of arrival to the first available extension in the queue. The system
answers each call immediately and, if necessary, holds it in a queue until it can be directed to
the next available extension. This feature is used to balance the workload among group of
extensions. Queues will provide the following functions, Incoming calls being placed in the
queue Extensions that answer the call in the queue. Option to choose ring type strategy, to
handle the calls in the queue and distribute the calls in the queue. Music played while waiting in
the queue.
Call queues are extremely valuable in sales and support organizations where inbound call
volume can sometimes exceed the number of available agents. This provides a level of
additional call capacity to the company while assuring the caller that they will be taken care of in
the order that they called in, rather than having to continually call back.
