User Datagram
Protocol (UDP)
An efficient but unreliable, connectionless protocol that is layered over
IP, as is TCP. Application programs are needed to supplement the
protocol to provide error processing and retransmission of data. UDP
is an OSI layer 4 protocol.
Voice Over IP (VoIP) The technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data
network using the Internet Protocol. Such data network may be the
Internet or a corporate Intranet.
Wide Area Network
(WAN)
A large (geographically dispersed) network, usually constructed with
serial lines, that covers a large geographic area. A WAN connects
LANs using transmission lines provided by a common carrier.
