Assigning SNMP
Parameters
Use the SNMP Configuration screen to display and modify parameters for the
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The Agent Module monitors the
hardware status of the hub (or connected stack), as well as the traffic passing
through the ports. A Network Management Station (NMS) can access this
information using other third-party network management software. Access rights
to the agent are controlled by community strings. To communicate with the agent,
the NMS must first submit a valid community string for authentication. The options
for configuring community strings and related trap functions are described in
Figure 5, Figure 6 and Figure 7, and in Table 4, Table 5 and Table 6:

Parameters Description
Send Authentication Issue a trap message whenever authentication of an SNMP
request fails.
Fail Traps The default issues traps to specified IP trap managers.
SNMP Communities Assigns SNMP access based on specified community strings.
IP Trap Managers Specifies management stations that will receive authentication
failure messages or other trap messages from the hub.
