Installation and Safety Guide Selecting a Site Before you install the switch, review the following considerations about its location. ■ AT-8948, x900-48FE, and AT-9900 switches require an ambient temperature from 0ºC to 50ºC (32ºF to 122ºF). ■ AT-9924Ts, x900-24X switches require an ambient temperature from 0ºC to 40ºC (32ºF to 104ºF). ■ There should be adequate airflow around the switch and its vents. ■ The site should be dust-free and without moisture.
x900 Series Switch Installing the Switch You can install the switch on a level surface, such as a desktop or bench, or in a standard 19-inch rack. The switch is heavier at the rear than at the front. Therefore use the brackets supplied with the switch when rack-mounting because they are designed to fully support the weight. Before you begin ■ Read the safety information. For your well-being and that of the equipment, read the safety information in this document.
Installation and Safety Guide Rack-mount procedure 1. Ensure the rack has sufficient space for the switch and its cables. For the switch’s requirements, see “Selecting a Site” on page 5. 2. Install cage nuts at the front of the rack so they are ready for the rackmount screws in the following steps. 3. Unpack the switch and remove the rubber feet. It may be helpful to temporarily remove the PSU or FOM so that the switch is lighter and easier to manipulate during installation.
x900 Series Switch Applying Power to the Switch The switch has two bays in the rear. Your switch comes with one pre-installed power supply unit (PSU). Depending on the model, the switch also has one fan-only module (FOM) in the other power supply bay or one blanking panel over the power supply bay.
Installation and Safety Guide Procedure for DC Power Supply Only trained and qualified personnel should connect a DC power supply. For centralised DC power connection, the switch should be installed in restricted access areas only (such as dedicated equipment rooms or equipment closets) in accordance with Articles 110-16, 110-17, and 110-18 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70. Warning Ensure that the power supply cable is not live before starting. 1.
x900 Series Switch Connecting the Switch AT-8948, x900-48FE, AT-9924Ts, and x900-24X switches can be configured with the Command Line Interface (CLI). AT-9900 switches can be configured with either the CLI or the Graphical User Interface (GUI). Before configuring the switch, you must make some basic connections explained in the following procedure. Before starting the procedure, ensure that the switch has at least one power supply unit installed and operating.
Installation and Safety Guide When the switch boots for the first time, it automatically creates an account with manager privileges. The login name for the account is manager and the password is friend. At the login prompt, enter the login name and password as follows: Login: manager Password: friend The switch’s command prompt is displayed for you to use the CLI to configure it. 5. Change the password.
x900 Series Switch Using the GUI to configure AT-9900 switches This section describes how to establish a connection to the AT-9900 switches through the GUI so you can configure it before installing it in your LAN. 1. Select a PC to use and identify its subnet. You can browse to the switch from any PC that is running a supported operating system with a supported browser. JavaScript must be enabled. If you are using a toolbar or plug-in on your browser to block pop-ups, disable it while using the GUI.
Installation and Safety Guide Checking LEDs Table 1 below describes how LEDs on the switch report faults and operational activities. Table 2 on page 14 describes how LEDs on power supply units and fan-only modules report faults and operational activities. LEDs for Ethernet ports and Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) ports are described in the Hardware Reference. After flashing three times, the LED stops briefly, then repeats the sequence.
