To add a filter, select the desired filter in the Available Filters list, and then click Add>>. To remove a filter, select the
filter you want to remove in the Apply Filters list, and then click <<Remove.
Note: Log filters are device-specific, which means a given filter may not apply to all device types. If a filter does
not apply to all of the selected devices, the filter will appear in the Selectively Applied Filters list. If a
filter is applied to a device that does not support the filter, the device will simply ignore the filter. When
applying log filters to multiple devices, it is recommended that you select only devices of the same family.
7. Once you have the filters you want to apply in the Apply Filters list, make sure the Enable Device Log(s) checkbox is
checked, and then click OK.
9.6.3 Configuring Log Actions
Event filters can be used to trigger actions on specific logs. The filter must specify the category of the desired log message
and any other criteria applicable to the log, and an action. Refer to 9.5 for information on setting up event filters.
9.6.4 Viewing Logs
System logs are stored in the NMS database, file (or both) as they are received. The actual logs stored depend on the log
types that are enabled and the log filters applied to each managed device. You can view all of the logs received on your net-
work from the System Log Events subview of the Network Events view. Refer to the NMS User Guide for more information
on the System Log Events subview.
You can view logs on a specific device as follows:
1. In the NMS Tree, select the Physical Network submap under Network Maps.
2. Right-click the device on which you want to view logs, and then select View Device Log. The Log Management Viewer
window, shown in the following figure, will appear.
