9.5.4 Example of Setting an Event Filter Action
The following example shows how an event can be configured so that when the event matches the criteria of an event filter an
email is sent. It also shows how other actions could be added, modified, or deleted.
Note: An event filter must have at least one action.
1. Click Add in the Event Filter Configuration panel.
2. Enter the alert filter name and the match criteria fields. If needed, Expressions can be used: wildcard (*), negation (!), and sep-
arators (,). Use the More option if needed.
3. Click to activate the Action Type panel.
4. Click the Send Email Action and New button. This activates the Filter Action Details panel.
5. Fill in the Action Details panel.
Send Trap
Action
Send Trap Action Name Name of this action required for identification
Trap Destination This is used to specify the hostname (IP address) of the host to
which the SNMP trap will be sent.
Destination Port The port to which the trap is to be sent.
Trap Community This specifies the community string of the generated SNMP trap.
Enterprise Specifies the enterprise OID of the generated SNMP trap.
Generic Type Used to specify the generic type number for the trap to be gener-
ated.
Specific Type Used to specify the specific type number for the trap to be gener-
ated.
Variable Bindings List A listing of the bound SNMP variables.
OID Value Enabled when Add is selected.
SNMP Type The SNMP variable type (STRING, IPADDRESS, OPAQUE,
OBJID, INTEGER, GUAGE, COUNTER, or TIMETICKS).
Set Value The value to which the variable is to be set.
Add, Update, Cancel
• Add - add variable.
• Update - Update the variable.
• Cancel - Cancel the Add/Update.
SysUpTime (secs) The time, in seconds, since the last system restart.
Send E-Mail
Action
Send E-Mail Action Name A name to identify this action.
SMTP Server A valid mail server address.
Recipient’s Address The Address to where the email is to be sent.
Sender’s Address The address from where the email is being sent.
Subject Subject of the email. This can use variables ($) from the Filter
Name if they have been specified.
Message Text of the email message. This can use variables ($) from the
Filter Name if they have been specified.
Custom Filter Custom Filter Name The name of the custom filter.
Custom Filter Class Name The name of the class to which the custom filter belongs.
