1.14.2 Duplex configuration
In the duplex configuration, redundancy is provide d for the Contro l M odules. In this configuration the 9700 is
equipped with two CMs. The two CMs operate in conjunction, one operating as the Active system controller,
while the other CM operates as a hot standby mate controller. In this configuration, if a failure occurs on one
Control Module, the mate will take activity and contin ue operation with no service in terruption. The CM can be
installed in either slot 8/9 or 12/13, ho wever for consistency in this document, slot 8/9 will be used for installing
the first CM (the second CM is installed later in this section).
To install the CMs:
1. As indicated earlier, the chassis comes with filler plates installed. Remove the filler plates from the two slots
(8 and 9 and 12 and 13) where the CMs will be installed.
2. Take the card from its antistatic container . (Set aside the Special Instructions for Ferrite instructions and the
ferrite for the Ethernet cable. Refer to Section 1.18.3.)
