EAN
European Article Number. This European/International version of
the UPC provides its own coding format and symbology standards.
Element dimensions are specified metrically. EAN is used primarily
in retail.
Edge Roughness
Edge irregularities as compared with a nominal bar edge.
Element
Generic term for a bar or space.
Encoded Area
Total linear dimension occupied by all characters of a code pattern,
including start/stop characters and data.
Error Correction
In addition to error detection, the recovery ability of PDF417 over
missing, destroyed, or misdecoded codewords. Error correction
capability is based on the level of security (0 ā 8) selected when the
PDF417 label is printed.
Extraneous Ink
Ink in a scan area not intended to be there (e.g., tracking and
splatter).

First Read Rate
Percentage of correct readings obtainable by one pass of a scanning
device over a bar code.

Guard Bars
The start, stop and center delimiting bars of UPC and EAN symbols.
