How the SCRAM System Works
Considering the complexity of the technology used, the SCRAM system is surprisingly simple and
consists of three major components:
• The SCRAM Bracelet, which is attached the client’s ankle and continuously senses and
measures ethanol concentration through the skin. The bracelet stores and time stamps all readings
taken and uploads these readings to the SCRAM Smart Modem.
• The SCRAM Smart Modem, which resides in the client’s home and transmits alcohol readings
and any tamper information from the SCRAM Bracelet to the Central Monitoring System via
existing telephone lines.
• The Central Monitoring Station, which receives the information and immediately notifies the
supervising agency and service provider if it receives positive alcohol readings, tamper
notifications, or encounters diagnostic or maintenance issues.
