13.3.3 AutoPVC and the Phonebook
The default VCs, can be remotely modified via the AutoPVC
feature of the STPro. AutoPVC operates only in conjunction with
the Alcatel DSLAM - often referred to as ATM Subscriber Access
Multiplexer (ASAM) - and offers the following functionality:
User VCs that are to be terminated on the Ethernet port, can
be notified by the STPro
User VCs that need to be crossconnected between the DSL
port and the ATMF25.6 port, can be remotely established.
Basically the following steps are executed:
1. The DSL operator configures VCs on the DSLAM.
2. Via AutoPVC the VPI/VCI values are communicated to the
STPro.
3. AutoPVC messages are subsequently processed by the STPro,
according to the four criteria listed below.
Any PVC, i.e. VPI/VCI, communicated via AutoPVC is added to the
AutoPVC list on the 'Phonebook' page.
If AutoPVC is not supported by the DSLAM, this list is empty.
If the VPI value is in the range from 0 up to 7, and the STPro is
equipped with an ATMF25.6 port, crossconnects will be
configured between the DSL port and the ATMF25.6 port (See
'ATMFADSL Xconnects' list on the 'Phonebook' page, if
applicable).
An AutoPVC VPI value in the range from 8 up to 15 will be
notified in the 'AutoPVC' list.
If the VPI/VCI value is used in the phonebook, the 'AutoPVC'
column will show Yes next to the corresponding phonebook entry.
