Ring VLAN group A logical group into which multiple VLANs are aggregated. VLAN groups
are actually managed in the ring. A VLAN can only belong to a single
VLAN group. With this functionality, you can use a maximum of two
VLAN groups for the data transfer VLAN and one VLAN for the control
VLAN.
9
Ring VLAN status
FWD (Forwarding)/
BLK (Blocking)
The Ring VLAN status is either FWD (Forwarding) or BLK (Blocking).
The status is applied to each Ring VLAN group on the ring ports. Data
transfer VLAN groups switch the status between FWD and BLK when
failure and recovery from failure are detected in the ring.
10
Health-check frame (HC) A frame sent by the master node over the control VLAN for a ring
normality check.
11
Flush control frame A frame sent by the master node over the control VLAN in response to
failure and recovery from failure detected in the ring. When a transit node
receives the frame, the node clears its MAC address table and forwards the
frame to the next node.
12
Forced flooding
(only available in
chassis-type switches)
When failure and recovery from failure are detected in the ring, this
function restores communication by forcibly flooding data before clearance
of the learned information in the MAC address table. The function is
performed per VLAN group on a ring port.
13
Single ring A configuration in which multiple switches are connected in a ring. This is
a basic configuration for the Ring Protocol.
14
Multi-ring A ring in which multiple single rings are connected.
15
Shared link member node
(Shared node)
A node that shares nodes in multiple rings.
Both master and transit nodes can be a shared node.
16
Shared link A link that connects shared nodes.
17
Shared link monitoring ring
(O-shaped ring)
A ring that monitors failure and recovery from failure on the shared link.
18
Shared link non-monitoring
ring
(C-shaped ring)
A ring that does not monitor failure and recovery from failure on the shared
link.
19
Shared link monitoring
master node
The master node in a shared link monitoring ring (O-shaped ring).
20
Shared link non-monitoring
master node
The master node in a shared link non-monitoring ring (C-shaped ring).
21
Virtual link A virtual line that links between any two devices in the ring network.
22
Virtual link ID An ID that identifies a virtual link to be connected.
23
Base
A collective name of a group of devices linked with the same virtual link
ID.
24
Virtual link VLAN A VLAN used to send and receive control frames between virtual links.
25
Virtual link control frame
A control frame that is encapsulated in order to send and receive STP
control frames (BPDUs) between virtual links.
