Introduction Thank you for choosing this DAB digital radio which has been designed and manufactured to give you many years of trouble-free service. You may already be familiar with using a similar product but please take the time to read these instructions which have been written to ensure you get the very best from your purchase. Safety is important Use of any electrical equipment should be undertaken with care. Please read the safety section on page 18 before using your DAB digital radio.

02 What is Digital Radio? DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) is the next generation of radio. DAB was developed in Europe by a consortium of broadcasters and manufacturers. DAB uses digital compression techniques to transform the source material, i.e. music and speech, into digital code before it is transmitted. The code consists of electronic ‘ones and zeros’ called binary digits or bits.
03 Getting Started Unpack Your DAB Digital Radio Carefully remove your DAB Digital Radio from the box. You may wish to store the packaging for future use. necessary to alter the position of the DAB digital radio and/or the aerial to achieve the best signal. 04 Using the DAB Radio Switching On for the First Time To switch on, turn the On/Off switch to the right. The DISPLAY will illuminate and ‘ Welcome to DAB ’ will be displayed. The DAB digital radio will automatically begin to scan for stations. The screen shown below is displayed. A bar graph indicates the progress of the search. stations. The station names will appear on line 3 of the display. When the desired station is displayed, press SELECT. The DAB digital radio will tune to that station.
04 Using the DAB Radio Station Display Symbols select the required preset slot. You may see some symbols displayed alongside the station names. These are defined as follows: 3. This is displayed before the station name if the station is not available or not active. >> Chevrons displayed after the station name indicate that this is a primary station with secondary services.
04 Using the DAB Radio Changing the DAB Display Information It is possible to change the information that is displayed on the third line of the display when listening to a DAB station. Note that this information is not available when listening to conventional FM stations. This displays the channel number and the transmission frequency. Signal Information This shows the digital bit-rate and the signal mode.

04 Using the DAB Radio Using the Menu System System Menu The INFO/MENU button allows you to change some of the system options on your DAB digital radio. These options are arranged in a menu structure as shown below. Pressing and holding the INFO/MENU button and selecting the SYSTEM option will enter the system menu. The options are described below. Using the DAB Radio 04 Manual Tune Software Version It is possible to manually tune to a specific channel/frequency and add this to the station list. This is only provided as an engineers reference in the unlikely event that servicing should ever be necessary. This function can be used to obtain the optimum reception for a specific channel/frequency, taking into account the position of the aerial. 1. Press the INFO/MENU button to access the menu system. 1.
04 Using the DAB Radio Dynamic Range Control DRC adds or removes a degree of compression to compensate for the differences in the dynamic range between radio stations. For example, a station broadcasting popular music may have a high level of compression applied since the emphasis is on a constant high listening level, whereas a station broadcasting classical music will have little or no compression as the listener requires all of the highs and lows in the music to define the detail.
Using the FM Radio 05 Switching to FM Mode If the DAB digital radio is in DAB mode, press the FM button. You may hear background noise if no station has been tuned in. Tuning the Radio To tune into a radio broadcast/station press and hold the CHANNEL +/button until the DAB digital radio begins scanning for available stations. The scan will stop when a station is found. To continue scanning press and hold the CHANNEL +/- button again.
06 Troubleshooting Problem What to do There is no sound from my radio Check that the volume is not set to the minimum. Make sure that the radio has been able to locate DAB/FM stations. The display shows ‘NO SERVICES AVAILABLE’ in DAB mode Make sure that DAB coverage exists in your area. Poor reception As with any radio service, there will be areas of weak signal that may cause poor reception.

Sound levels Your hearing is very important to you and to us, so please take care when using this DAB digital radio.
Warnings 08 Don’t leave the DAB digital radio switched On when it is unattended for long periods of time, unless it is specifically stated that it is designed for unattended operation or has a standby mode. When replacing the batteries make sure that you use the same size and type. Don’t obstruct the ventilation vents on the DAB digital radio, for example with curtains or soft furnishings, as this may cause overheating. Please ensure that used batteries (not included) are disposed of safely.
09 Electrical information The mains lead supplied with this DAB digital radio is fitted with a BS1363/A 13 amp plug. If it is not suitable for your supply sockets it must be replaced with an appropriate plug. If the plug becomes damaged and/or needs to be replaced please follow the wiring instructions below. The plug removed must be disposed of immediately. It must not be plugged into a supply socket as this will be an electrical hazard.
Guarantee 10 The DAB digital radio is guaranteed for twelve months from the date of original purchase. If any defect should occur due to faulty materials or workmanship, contact Goodmans via the website (www.goodmans.co.uk). Have your receipt of purchase on hand.
