Chapter 9: Saving and Loading From Disk

2. Each sound used by the program is individually saved as a sound file.
If a sound file on the disk has the same name as the sound being
saved, the new sound won’t be saved.
The fields and soft keys are:
• The Program field:
In this field, enter the program number to be saved (1–8). The program’s
name is shown to the right. The program file name will be created from
the program name, and the file’s extension will be PGM.
• The Disk field:
This field has the same function as in the Save Sequence screen
described above.
• The Size field:
This field shows the combined size of the program file and all sound files
to be saved. (Program files only require 4K each.) Since sound files with
the same name as those already on disk won’t be saved, it is possible
that not as much free space will be needed as is indicated in this field .
 • The Free field:
This shows the amount of free space on the selected disk.
COMMENT: The MPC60 will allow large programs to be saved
onto multiple disks. If the total size of the PGM file and its sound
files exceeds the free space on the inserted floppy disk, a
warning will appear on the screen, informing you how many
disks will be needed. The MPC60 will save the PGM file and as
many sound files as will fit onto the first disk. Then, it will present
a screen asking you to insert another disk and will save as many
sound files as will fit onto that disk. This process will continue
until all files have been saved. To load this program file later,
simply load the PGM file—it will load along with the sound files
from the first disk, then a screen will appear asking you to insert
the other disks, one by one, in order to load the remaining sound
files.
• The Save field:
Program files contain no sound data so when saving a program, the
sounds used by the program are normally also saved at the same time.
This choice field permits the option of saving the program file by itself
without the accompanying sound files. The two options are:
1. PROGRAM+SOUNDS (NORMAL):
This is the normal setting, saving first the program file then each
sound file used within the program.
2. PROGRAM ONLY (NO SOUNDS):
This option allows only the program file to be saved without any
sounds.
• The Replace same sounds on disk field:
This field appears only if PROGRAM+SOUNDS (NORMAL) is selected
in the field above. It has two options:
