www.aja.com Quick Start Guide Introduction This Quick Start Guide provides a basic overview of Ki Pro as well as some basic configuration guidelines. It is not meant as a substitute for the detailed information found in the Ki Pro Manual, but rather as a supplement to that documentation. Basic information to get started using Ki Pro If this is the first time you are removing Ki Pro from the box, we strongly recommend that you first read the full Ki Pro Manual in addition to this document.
To make inserting the media as easy as possible, you might want to first line up the media with both hands so that the media will slide along the guides inside the Ki Pro, and then use both thumbs to guide the media into place. You will hear a clicking of the clutch that holds the media in place when it is fully inserted. With the media inserted, position Ki Pro near the camera or mount Ki Pro to a camera with the optional Exoskeleton.
Ki Pro Quick Start Guide— 1 Remove the sliding plate from the top of the Exoskeleton by twisting the locking knob counterclockwise, then slide the plate free. Place the camera on the mount, orienting the mount’s alignment pin to the camera’s corresponding pin socket. Once aligned, tighten the mounting screw to secure the camera. Slide the camera and mount back on the rail and tighten the locking knob.
Slide Ki Pro into the Exoskeleton from the right hand side with the locking knob facing the rear. Center the 4-pin XLR power connector in the rear opening of the Exoskeleton. Anchor the Ki Pro in the Exoskeleton with the two thumbscrews.
Ki Pro Quick Start Guide— Make audio and video connections to Ki Pro Make audio and video connections to Ki Pro Cameras with SDI outputs can provide audio, video - and in some cases - timecode with one single cable connection to Ki Pro. If your camera has an SDI output, this will likely be the simplest way to connect to Ki Pro. 1 If you have a camcorder with an HDMI output, it can also provide audio and video - but not timecode - with one single cable to Ki Pro.
Making choices prior to recording After you have powered up the camera and the Ki Pro, you may want to make menu selections to create your desired recording.
Ki Pro Quick Start Guide— A quick synopsis of the parameters in the CONFIG menu 2.2 Audio Input This parameter selects an audio input source from the audio input connections available, 1 audio, which including embedded SDI audio which requires an SDI video source and HDMI requires and HDMI video source. Analog audio can be used with any video source. 3.1 Component In Lvl This parameter selects the input level for signals applied at the component video input connectors.
FREERUN Free run mode: Ki Pro syncs to its own timebase and is not locked to an external source 8.0 TC In This parameter selects the source of timecode from those available. In many cases, you will want to replicate the timecode value coming from the camera. If you do not want to do this, you can configure the TC Value or use the Ki Pro's internal clock to produce a timecode value for your recordings. 8.1 TC Value This parameter selects an hour for timecode to start.
Ki Pro Quick Start Guide— An overview of the MEDIA menu parameters An overview of the MEDIA menu parameters 14.1 Encode Type This parameter defines the Apple ProRes encoding method; you may choose between Apple ProRes 422 or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). 15.2 Loop Play This parameter turns the looped playback of a clip on and off. 16.1 Format Media This parameter is used to format the currently selected storage device.
An overview of the STATUS menu STATUS does not require you to hit stop - like the CONFIG and MEDIA menus do. It is an "at-aglance" overview of your system. After pushing STATUS, you will see the input values you've configured for the video and audio as well as the incoming video format that is being autodetected by the Ki Pro.
Ki Pro Quick Start Guide— Using the DELETE CLIP button If you want to review a clip on a monitor attached to one of Ki Pro's video outputs, simply hit the play button. If you want to pause the playback of a currently playing clip, hit the stop button again. You will note that the stop button flashes denoting that you've paused playback. If you hit stop again, the Ki Pro will go back to an E-to-E or input passthrough state where you see the video (if there is any) being input to Ki Pro from the camera.
To properly remove media, hit the SLOT button. You will note that the information for the Clip in the upper left hand corner of the UI now states "N/A", as does the Reel and where the available percentage of the media is displayed, it now reads "NoSlot". You will also note that the LED is no longer lit. This means that it is now safe to remove the media.
Ki Pro Quick Start Guide— Summary "WARNING Media Not Present" may appear if media has been physically removed and the user hits the slot button. "WARNING Media Unrecognized" may appear if there is a problem with the media. To resolve this issue, mount the drive on an Apple computer under Mac OSX, copy the clips from the media, then re-insert the media into Ki Pro. If it does not read properly, you will need to format the media.
