PLAP Boot Strap of PC4500/4800
The following is the correct start sequence for PLAP mode.
1. Wait for Card Detect signals to go active (active LOW). ***
2. Enable power (VCC) to the socket. Set VPP1 = 5V, VPP2 = 0V.
3. Delay for power to stabilize (200 ms).
4. Assert PCMCIA reset.
5. Release PCMCIA reset.
6. Delay at least 10us.
7. Wait for Card Ready to go active. Alternately, delay 3 seconds.
8. Send autobaud sequence at selected baud rate (0x0D,0x0D,0x0D,0x33). When the autobaud
sequence has been detected, BUSY_IN will be asserted.
9. If BUSY_IN is not detected within 1 second, repeat from step 8, possibly at a different baud rate.
10. If BUSY_IN is not detected within 3 repetitions of steps 8-9, repeat from step 4.
11. If BUSY_IN is not detected within 3 repetitions of steps 4-10, report ERROR.
12. Wait for 2 seconds for BUSY_IN to be deasserted. If it is not deasserted, repeat from step 4.
13. If BUSY_IN is not deasserted within 3 repetitions of steps 4-12, report ERROR.
14. Proceed with transmit of PLAP SYNC_REQUEST frame while obeying the
BUSY_IN/BUSY_OUT protocol.
15. Wait for 2 seconds for receipt of SYNC_ACK frame.
16. If no SYNC_ACK is received, repeat from step 14.
17. If no SYNC_ACK after three SYNC_REQUEST attempts, report ERROR.
*** Assumes that cards can be removed. The PC4500/4800 connects the card detect signals to
ground, so that if the host hardware would have a pull-up on this signal and a capability to test it,
card detection would be possible.
