Utilities

This section describes procedures for using utilities and

updating ﬁrmware depending on the operating system

used.

See Appendix B for detailed conﬁguration procedures for

WinDGS using Windows 95 or Windows 98.

Here’s what you will ﬁnd in this section:

• Loading new ﬁrmware versions

Site Survey and Link Test

In order to perform a meaningful site survey, it is necessary

to conduct a test that will accurately model the intended use

of the system. It is important to perform a site survey using

equipment which is similar to that implemented. Items to be

surveyed are:

• Transmit power

• Antenna(s) type(s)

• Antenna(s) location(s)

• Packet (fragment) size

• Interference

The site survey should be conducted with all variables set

to the operational values. It should also be performed dur-

ing the time the RF link will generally be functioning with all

other systems and noise sources operational. For efﬁ-

ciency, the site survey application should be executed

entirely from the mobile station.
