Average
For each interval (bucket) in the trace, Average detection displays the average of all
samples within the interval using one of the following averaging methods:
log (also known as video)
power (also known as RMS)
voltage envelope
To explicitly set the averaging method, use the BW/Avg, Avg/VBW Type key. The
combination of the average detector and the power method is equivalent to what is
sometimes referred to as “RMS detection.” When the method (Avg/VBW Type) is set to
Pwr Avg, and Detector is set to Average, the RMS method is selected.
When Average is selected, Avg appears on the left side of the display.

Dependencies/Couplings: Use of Average affects the VBW setting. See the section
“Video BW" on page 94. When in Average detection, video trigger (Trig, Trigger, Video) is
not available.
