Testing & Maintaining
the Agilent V24/V26
Series
of the batteries and comparing it to Figure 2-1. If the batteries discharge much more quickly
than expected by the graph, the batteries have exceeded their useful life and should be
replaced.
Another way to test the capacity of the battery is to perform the charge and discharge test.
Following a full charge, discharge the battery at 0.75 A to the end voltage of 10.5 V at an
ambient temperature of 25°C (+
2°C) and then let it sit at the same temperature for one hour.
Within 5 cycles of the charge and discharge test, the resultant discharge duration time should
exceed 125 minutes. If the batteries discharge much more quickly than expected, the batteries
have exceeded their useful life and should be replaced.

The shelf life of the battery can be estimated by measuring the duration time of a discharge.
To measure the duration time, discharge one battery at 0.75 A to the end voltage of 10.5 V at
the ambient temperature of 25°C (+
2°C) and then let the battery stand 24 hours at this
temperature. A battery that has been stored at an ambient temperature of 40°C (+
2°C) for
four months should have a discharge duration time of 50 minutes. Compare your duration
time to the information in Figure 2-2. If the batteries discharge much more quickly than
expected by the graph, the batteries have exceeded their useful life and should be replaced.
