Triggering and Gating 5
With the counter display registering:
4.999 984 583 3MHz (11 digits - resolution enhanced)
Querying the gate time after sending this command returns:
SENS:FREQ:GATE:TIME?
+1.00000000000000E-001 (100 ms)
From Table 5-2 and assuming a 53230A counter and measurement mode Auto,
this corresponds to 11 digits of resolution. To achieve a desired resolution
(digits) in terms of gate time, locate the number of digits in Table 5-2 and
select the corresponding gate time:
SENS:FREQ:GATE:TIME 100e-3 // set gate time = 100 ms
SENS:FREQ:GATE:SOUR TIME // set gate source
As another example, assume a measurement requiring 6-digit resolution of a
5 ns (200 MHz) signal. Recalling that Log
10
(expected value) - Log
10
(resolu-
tion) is approximately equal to digits of resolution, the measurement can be
configured as:
MEAS:PER? 5E-9, 5E-15, (@1) // per meas of 200 MHz signal
A typical measurement using this configuration might return:
+5.00010899135045E-009
With the counter display registering:
5.000 10nsec (6 digits)
Querying the gate time after sending this command returns:
SENS:FREQ:GATE:TIME?
+1.00000000000000E-005 (10 us - no resolution enhancement)
