Verification Tests 61
Correction If, during the display test, a segment or segments malfunctioned, a problem
exists on the Controller board or the Display assembly. Refer to “Agilent
3499A/B/C Problem Isolation” on Page 80 for problem isolation
information.
If the front-panel test failed, a problem exists on the front panel circuitry;
if any of the other internal tests failed, the Controller board is malfunctioned.
To replace or repair the front panel circuitry and /or the Controller board, the
mainframe must be disassembled. Refer to “Replaceable Parts” on Page 85
for Agilent 3499A/B/C mainframes disassembly information.
Mainframe Verification Tests
The mainframe self-test does not assess the operability of the driver circuitry
and the connectivity, more operation verification tests are required. These
include the GPIB test, the RS-232 test and the keyboard test.
GPIB Test To test the GPIB on an Agilent 3499A/B/C mainframe:
1. Make sure the GPIB interface card and the Agilent I/O Library is
installed in your PC, and the Agilent 3499A/B/C interface is set to
GPIB;
2. Make sure one or more plug-in modules are installed (i.e. Agilent
N2260A, etc.);
3. Make sure the GPIB address is correct and the GPIB cable is
operational;
4. Connect the GPIB interface from your PC to an Agilent 3499A/B/C;
5. Set the Agilent 3499A/B/C to SCPI mode. Send a SCPI command
DIAG:DISP “GPIB test” from you PC.
If “GPIB TEST” is displayed on the front panel of the Agilent 3499A/B/C,
the GPIB test passed. Otherwise, the GPIB test failed.
RS-232 Test To test the RS-232 on an Agilent 3499A/B/C:
1. Make sure one or more plug-in modules are installed (i.e. Agilent
N2260A, etc.);
2. Set the Agilent 3499A/B/C to SCPI mode and the Agilent 3499A/B/C
interface is set to RS-232;
3. Connect the RS-232 cable from your PC to an Agilent 3499A/B/C;
4. Send a SCPI command
DIAG:DISP “RS232 test” from you PC.
+3 RS-232 test failed.
+4 Front-panel test failed.
