Organized Track System
Beside the static airways used for flight planning, the Organized Track
System (OTS) records the current oceanic tracks, updated on a daily
basis.
These tracks are normally optimized to avoid headwinds and to take
advantage of tailwinds by circumnavigating bad weather conditions.
They often require special flight
planning procedures and consi-
derations (refer to page 72 –
Flight Planning).
These tracks are:
• North Atlantic Tracks
(NATS) for crossing the Atlantic
between Europe and the US
East Coast/Canada.
• Pacific Tracks (PACOTS)
for crossing the Northern Pacific
Ocean between the US West
Coast and Asia/Japan.
