Appendix D, Experimenteller AI-
Flugverkehr
(Technische Beschreibung auf Englisch)
Unfortunately both FSX‘s and P3D‘s AI traffic engine is rather limited
when it comes to handling short runways.
We have created an AI traffic file to add some traffic to EDXH, which
is deactivated by default. If you want to activate it go to the folder...
[Flightsim]\Scenery\World\Scenery\
...and rename the file Traffic_Helgoland.off to Traffic_Helgoland.bgl
Be aware: This is EXPERIMENTAL until further notice!
You need to be aware of the following limitations when dealing with
AI traffic at EDXH:
1. The only AI aircraft flying the flight plan we created is the PA28. It
is the only one that can (more or less) handle the short runways, is
available both in FSX and P3D and can candle sharp bends in narrow
taxiways.
2. Only runway 15/33 is used for takeoff and landing (this in return
also applies to all traffic handled by ATC).
3. There is a fake taxiway on the runway to force AI traffic to
backtrack to the end of the runway before taking off. Aircraft will not
reach the hold short node before reaching the end of the runway
(while already being on the runway).
4. The runway has artificially extended all the way under the beach to
the north. This is to force aircraft approaching Rwy15 to touch down
soon enough not to splash into the sea on the other side.
5. Depending on wind conditions (no wind or tailwind) even the PA28
won‘t make a takeoff on time. It will hover above the sea in airport
height until actually taking off. Not a biggie but may look funny.
6. We haven‘t been able on our systems to force AI traffic to do
anything but the following landing/takeoff behavior: Both Takeoffs
and landings always take place on Rwy 15. Not so bad because, they
may not be able to takeoff before reaching the dunes in the other
direction anyway.
7. Make sure to give the approaching aircraft some headwind, e.g. by
setting a weather theme with wind blowing in a south-north direc-
tion. This enhance the likeliness that AI traffic comes to a halt before
reaching the shore again.
