Likewise, when you reach the Step Climb point it will not climb automatically. You then need to turn
the FCU altitude up to the new altitude and push the ALT button to initiate the Step Climb.
If you have any scheduled Step Climbs in your flight plan you can also enter the altitude/waypoint to
tell the that you will do a Step Climb exactly at this waypoint. The Arrow on the ND will then show
exactly at the waypoint and the performance predictions will be adjusted accordingly.
5.17 Descent Preparation (the quick and dirty way)
Before starting the Descent Preparation CL and before initiating Descent the MCDU PERF APPR page should be
checked respectively missing data added.
The procedure outlined in this section is a cut down procedure to get you going quickly. You will find a full
procedure at the end of this tutorial.
Use the AOC weather uplink to get and print your weather data.
- Press ATC COMM or MCDU MENU
- Press LSK1R to enter the AOC MENU
- Check that all required airports are displayed. By default the Departure, Destination and
Alternate are inserted automatically if entered on the INIT A page
- Press LSK6R to send the weather request.
- Press LSK6L to RETURN to the previous page
- Press LSK6R to enter the RECEIVED MESSAGES menu as soon as the COMPANY MESSAGE
advisory shows up on the ECAM, indicated that you received a message.
- You can now either choose to view the received weather information directly in the MCDU by
pressing the LSK’s 1-3L to view the respective report, or you can print them all out.
- We will however print the weather data out by pressing LSK5R to PRINT ALL (messages).
You will see the printed piece of paper coming out of the printer on the lower right of the
pedestal. Click on the paper once it is completely printed to rip it off the printer and attach it to
the window frame of the captains window. If you click on it again when it hangs on the clipboard
on the captains window a 2D version of the paper will open, allowing you quick access while
entering the weather into the MCDU.
