Whenthemathcoprocessoroverflows,theresultwillbeaproperlysignedinfinity.Sub-
sequentcalculationswillnotdealwellwithaninfinity;itusuallysignalsanerrorinyour
program.TheresultofanoperationinvolvinganinfinityismostoftenaNaN.
DEN, UNN
Whensomemathcoprocessorsunderflow,theymaydosograduallybyshiftingthesig-
nificandofthenumberasnecessarytokeeptheexponentinrange.Theresultofthisisa
denormal(DEN).Whendenormalsareusedincalculations,theyareusuallyhandled
automaticallyinanappropriateway.Theresultwilleitherbeanunnormal(UNN),
whichlikethedenormalrepresentsanumberveryclosetozero,oranormal,depending
onhowsignificanttheeffectofthedenormalwasinthecalculation.Insomecasesthe
resultwillbeaNaN.
