Chapter 1 Hardware Configuration
1.1 Introduction
Advantech's AIMB-740-6CB1 series industrial motherboard is designed
based on the standard ATX form factor with additional industrial features
such as long product life, high reliability and manageability. It is flexible
in that it can be installed in a commercial PC chassis or in an industrial
grade rack mounting chassis. It meets the requirements of a variety of
applications where a commercial motherboard cannot fit.
The AIMB-740-6CB1 utilizes Intel 845GV and supports Socket 478 Pen-
tium® 4/Celeron-D/Mobile Pentium® 4-M (FSB 400/533MHz) up to
3.06 GHz. In addition to a high-speed processor, it supports up to 2GB
DDR memory and has 2 DIMM sockets on board.
The AIMB-740-6CB1 comes with the 845GV integrated VGA controller
providing superior display performance. Intel 82562 10/100Base-T
Ethernet controller is available on the AIMB-740-6CB1 series. The high
reliability and excellent performance provided by Intel Ethernet control-
ler are crucial for various network applications. AIMB-740-6CB1 fea-
tures 6 serial ports and 2 x 8-bit GPIO.
A backup of CMOS data is stored in the Flash memory, which protects
BIOS setup data even after a battery failure. Also included is a 255-level
watchdog timer, which resets the CPU or generates an interrupt if a pro-
gram cannot be executed normally. This enables reliable operation in
unattended environments. The remote management interface enables the
AIMB-740-6CB1 to be managed through Ethernet when it is connected
to the SNMP-1000 Remote HTTP/SNMP System Manager.
