Blu-ray Disc: Features You Wont Find on DVD
In addition to the MPEG-2
format used by DVD-Video,
Blu-Ray Disc™ uses video
codes, such as MPEG-4 AVC
and VC-1, which deliver high
image quality using high
compression rates. The data
transfer speed is 48 Mbps,
which is about five times
faster than DVD.
Blu-Ray Disc™ optionally
supports next-generation
surround sound formats like
Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
This makes it possible to
reproduce high-quality 7.1-
channel surround sound with
each channel offering
amazing audio quality,
delivering a surround sound
experience that rivals the
quality of the master audio
source.
Incorporating BONUSVIEW (Final Standard Profile)
of BD-ROM Profile 1 Version 1.1, Panasonic’s new
Blu-ray Disc™ models offer entertainment features
that have never before been possible. For example,
they provide a new Picture-in-Picture function that
displays a sub-screen while a movie is playing, and
an Audio Mixing capability that lets you switch the
sound between the main screen and sub-screen.
Other exciting new, interactive features will also
become available, and discs will include bonus
content such as games together with movies.
* Available features vary depending on the Blu-ray Disc™.
