Setting the Realm
The realm specifies the type of phone system in which the lines are being configured. This setting provides
the dial plan to be used. Table 4 below lists the available settings for Reg.1.Realm defined in the MAC
address-based configuration file for each phone. Refer to Appendix B on page 81 for more information on
setting up the dial plan parameters.
Setting the Domain
Setting the domain in the Reg.x.Domain parameter is optional. It is used to form Invite URIs and
registration Request URIs that have a domain after the @ symbol instead of an IP address or FQDN from
the proxy or registrar server.
Assigning Line Key Functions
The line keys are numbered from 1 to 6 on the IP 706 phone and from 1 to 12 on the IP 712 phone. The

Value Description
General External (GE) Used for general non-PBX-type outside lines. Lines of
this type use the DialPlanExternal dial plan.
Private External (PE) Used for private (few users) non-PBX-type outside lines.
Lines of this type use the DialPlanExternal dial plan.
General PBX (GP) Used for PBX call appearances that require an additional
digit, such as 9 to be dialed to access outside numbers.
Lines of this type use the DialPlanPbx dial plan.
General Intercom (GI) Used for intercom lines configured for key system
operation. Lines of this type use the DialPlanIntercom
dial plan.
