Setup menus
Create main menus and submenus in this step. These menus allow the viewers to instantly access specic portions
of your video. DVD MovieFactory offers a set of menu templates to best t the purpose of each menu. Custom-made
menus are also easily created. See the illustration below to better understand the DVD/SVCD/VCD menu structure.
In this example, Clip 1 has three chapters so when you click the Clip 1 video thumbnail, it will
jump to submenu #1. If you look at Clip 2, it has no chapters assigned to it. Therefore, there is
no submenu for Clip 2.
To design the menu for your project:
1. In the Add/Edit Media page, select Create Menu.
2. Click Next to open the Edit Menu page.
3. Select the menu to modify in Currently displayed menu.
4. Select a template layout category in Menu template in Menu
Template then double-click on a template layout thumbnail to apply it. Click Customize if you want to make
changes to the layout.
5. Select Motion Menu and specify the duration for the moving elements in the menu.
Notes:
•When Motion Menu is selected, the movie will use the beginning part of the video at a xed duration
instead of the rst video frame as button thumbnails. The duration of the motion menus can be set
to 10, 20, or 30 seconds.
• Using motion menus will increase the le size. Check the disc space usage indicator to make sure that
the le size is still within the limit of the DVD. Refer to the Required menu space to make sure the
space for the menu does not exceed the menu space limit of your selected output.
• Use video backgrounds and buttons to enhance the appearance of your menus. Select a customized
template rst then choose a video as your motion background.
6. Click Background to specify the image or video background for the menu.
7. Click Background Music to set the background music for the menu.
8. Click the text description of the thumbnails to change it.
9. Click the thumbnail to choose a different frame for the thumbnail.
10.To view your menu, click Next to go to the Preview page. A mark on a menu template indicates that the
template’s still background can be changed to a motion one.
To change the background of a specially marked menu template to a background video:
1. Double-click to select the template with the special mark (for example, Sport11 under the Sports category).
2. Click Background: Select a Background Video for This Menu (or background video related commands
for other menus).
3. Locate and select Sport11_NTSC.mpg in the Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory
3\Video\Motion Menu folder.
