Problem
Monitor cannot communicate over a seri al c onnection.
Possible
Causes
Serial connection to monitor or fiel d computer may be
loose.
Communicati on port may not def i ned c orrectly in Qstart.
USB Serial Interface c abl e may be damaged.
Serial port on the comput er may not be generating
adequate power for the USB S eri al I nterface Cable to
facil i t ate communicat i on with t he monitor.
USB drivers are not loaded properly.
3.3-volt fuse on regulator may have blown.
Possible
Solutions
Verify cabl e connections to monit or and f i el d computer
are secure.
Verify the port is correct through the Control P anel on
your comput er.
Inspect USB seri al i nterface cabl e f or damage.
Load USB drivers f ol l owing the i nstructi ons on the USB
cable.
(applies only i f the soft ware provides a “Getting Monit or
Attention” message w hi l e attempting to c ommunicat e)
Remove the monitor from the hazardous area (at least
20 feet away from the manhole), di sconnect t he battery
pack, wait at least 1 minute, reconnect the batt ery pack,
and then attempt to comm uni cate. If the m onitor still will
not communic ate, replace the 3.3-volt yellow fuse (when
replaceable) on the regulator.
