Configura tion and Activation 6-39
most common option for selection. ADS recommends
using this setting for most monitoring applications.
Backward Choose this option for monitoring points at
which the Surface Co mbo Sensor has been positioned
facing d ownstream and to ensure the monitor only analyzes
flows moving away from the face of the sensor. One
application in which this would be the preferable option
would be for measuring velocity in an outgoing line
following two incoming lines in the manhole.
Backward Bidirectional Choose thi s option when the
Surface Combo Sensor is installed facing d o wnstream and
to ens ure the monit or ana lyzes flows moving bo th away
from and toward the face of the sensor. This option would
be beneficial, for example, when using a weir to measure
overflows with the pote ntial of river intrusion.
Maximum Velocity Select the maximum expected velocity
that will occur at the site for the monitor to use in fine-tuning
the velocity data. The Auto (default) option serves to optimize
the range and r esolution of the velocity data samples to match
the characteristics of the flow. However, if the velocity
readings at the location measure at least 10 feet per second
(fps) on a regular basis, ADS r eco mmends choosing the 15 fps
option for this par a meter.
Transmit Fr equency Select the frequency at which to
transmit the signal. ADS recommends leaving the d efault
setting (Normal) for most applications. However, if hydraulic
conditions at the site are r e sulting in questionable o r e rroneous
rea dings, conside r applying the other frequency opt ion.
Contact ADS for assistance when necessary.
Gain T his value represents the factor applied to raw velocity
(RAWVEL entity in Qstart) to determine average velocity and
to calculate q uantity for the Flow 1(2) device.
Note: The Cro ss Check Gain parameter do es not apply
to the (Surcharge) Peak Velocity Sensor; therefore, it is not
available on the Peak Velocity tab.
