3 For Encoding, select UTF-8, UTF-16, or Shift-JIS (for Japanese characters), and then click Save. InCopy saves the
tags as an XML file.
XML tags
To automatically format tagged text
After you import XML, you can save time formatting the content by mapping XML element tags to paragraph or
character styles. It’s possible to map more than one tag to the same style, and you can edit the mappings at any time.
If you give styles the exact same name as the tags, you can use the Map By Name option to automatically match tags
with the styles of the same name.
Youdon’t need to mapevery tag. Childelementstakeonthe styles appliedtothe parent elementwhentheyare in the
same paragraph and frame as the parent. However, you can map them separately.
Important: When you map tags to styles, InCopy restyles all tagged text using the current mapping. If you’ve already
formatted some text, you might prefer to apply styles manually.
1 Choose Map Tags to Styles from the Tags palette menu (choose Window > Tags) or the Structure pane menu
(choose View > Structure > Show Structure).
2 To import styles, tags, and mapping definitions from another document, click Load, specify the file, and then click
Open.
3 To automatically map tags to styles with the same names, click Map by Name. Styles with identical names to a tag
are selected in the Style column. (InCopy does not create new styles.) Map by Name is case-sensitive, so H1 and h1
would be treated as different tags.
4 To map tags individually, click the Style column adjacent to a tag, and choose the paragraph or character style from
the menu that appears. Repeat for each tag you want to map.
