To open an XML file
You can open any existing XML file in InCopy for editing and tagging.
1 Choose File > Open.
2 Locate and select the XML file you want to use.
3 Click Open.
To save an XML file as an InCopy story
You can save XML files as InCopy stories (which use an XML format).
1 Open the XML file in InCopy.
2 Choose File > Save Content As.
3 Type the name and specify the location for the INCX file.
4 From the Save As Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS) menu, choose InCopy CS2 Document, and click Save.
To export an InCopy file to XML
After you tag the document’s page items, you’re ready to export a document to XML. You can export the entire set of
tagged page items, or you can export a specified portion. Once the document is exported, you can make additional
changes to the XML file using a program such as Adobe GoLive®, or you can import the XML file into an InDesign
document or another application.
1 To prepare for export, make sure that tags have been applied to the necessary page items.
2 If you want to export only a portion of the document, select the element in the Structure pane from where you
want exporting to begin.
3 Choose File > Export.
4 Choose XML for Save as Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS).
5 Type the name and specify the location of the XML file, and then click Save.
6 In the Export XML dialog box, select the desired encoding scheme: UTF-8 or UTF-16.
7 To include a reference to a loaded DTD file, select Include DTD Declaration.
8 To view the exported XML file, select the View XML Using option, and specify the browser or XML editing appli-
cation in which the exported XML file will appear.
9 If youselectedanelement in theStructure pane,you canselectExportfromSelectedElement to export only the
selected portion of the document. If no element is selected, this option is unavailable.
10 Click OK to export the XML file.
