Drawing with the freehand tool
The freehand tool lets you draw paths
as if you were using a pencil. You can
use it for fast sketching or creating a
more handdrawn look than you could
with the pen tool.
The freehand tool sets anchor points as
you draw, according to the path length
and complexity, and the Freehand Toler-
ance value (2 pixels, by default) set in
the General Preferences dialog box. You
can adjust the position of anchor points
after completing the path. The freehand
tolerance controls the sensitivity of the
tool when you move the mouse or
graphics-tablet stylus; the higher the
tolerance, the less complex and
smoother the path.
