The gamut of a color system is the
range of colors that can be displayed or
printed. The widest gamut is in the
visible spectrum, which contains all
the colors visible to the human eye.
The RGB gamut and CMYK gamut are
subsets of the visible spectrum.
As shown in the following illustration,
the CMYK gamut is smaller than the RGB
gamut. This means that some colors
that appear on the monitor, such as flu-
orescent colors, cannot be reproduced
by CMYK inks.
