To adjust how the pattern tile fits
the path:
1 In the Path Pattern dialog box, choose
one of the three Tile Fitting options:
• Choose Stretch to Fit to lengthen or
shorten the pattern tile to fit the object.
This option can result in uneven tiling.
• Choose Add Spacing to Fit to add
blank space between each pattern tile to
apply the pattern proportionately to the
selected object. Let Illustrator deter-
mine the amount of space between tiles,
or specify an amount in the Tile Size
Spacing text box, as described in step 2.
• If you are applying a pattern to a
rectangle and want the pattern to tile
evenly, select the Approximate Path
option. This option offsets the pattern
from the path, rather than centering it,
to maintain even tiling.
2 To add spacing between pattern tiles
(such as for noncontinuous designs like
dots or discrete shapes), enter a value in
the Tile Size Spacing text box.
3 Click OK to apply the adjustments.
