To use the Pathfinder filters:

Select the objects to which to apply
the filter.

Choose Filter > Pathfinder, and then
choose the filter you want to apply:
• The Unite filter traces the outline of all
selected objects as if they were a single,
merged object. Any objects inside the
selected objects are deleted.
• The Intersect filter traces the outline
of all overlapping shapes in the selected
objects, ignoring any nonoverlapping
areas. It works on only two objects at a
time.
• The Exclude filter traces all nonover-
lapping areas of the selected objects,
making the overlapping areas trans-
parent.
• The Minus Front filter subtracts the
frontmost selected objects from the
backmost object. You can use this filter
to delete areas of your illustration by
adjusting the stacking order.
