The Blend dialog box displays a recom-
mended number of steps, along with
the percentage of change in the first and
last steps, based on the two colors you
are blending.
For example, if you blend an object that
is filled with 100% black with an object
that is filled with 100% white, the pro-
gram enters 254 in the Number of Steps
text box because 254 is the maximum
number of printable gray values
between black and white on a high-res-
olution output device. (The total num-
ber of printable colors is 256—the start-
ing color, the ending color, and 254
colors in between.) If one object is 50%
black and the other is 100% white, the
program enters 127 in the Number of
Steps text box.
