Tutorial: Creating Seamless Textures
Seamless texture images will wrap most successfully. Seamless textures have opposite edges that look natural when the
texture is tiled edge to edge. You can make seamless textures in Adobe Photoshop.
Adobe ImageReady ships with a Filter called Tile Maker that automatically blends edges so that opposite edges will
match (look in the Other fi lter category).
To create a seamless texture image in Photoshop, follow these steps.
1 Open a texture image fi le in Photoshop.
2 With the Rectangular Marquee Tool, select a section for the tile. If you hold down the Shift key, you can make the
selection area a square.
3 Select the Filter > Other > Offset menu command. This will offset the image edges. Select a value – start with 100
for Horizontal and Vertical depending on the actual size of your image.
4 Touch up the edges with the Clone or Healing Brush Tool.
5 Save the image as a GIF, JPG, or PNG fi le.
6 Impoert the texture into the Paint Presets palette using the palete menu Add Texture Preset command.
The texture image is now ready to be applied and tiled.
