102 CHAPTER 9
Naming Objects
Once an object is created (a Primitive or a Group), it will appear in the Object Hierarchy palette with its type listed
in brackets. To name the object, select it and type a name in the Inspector palette’s Name fi eld. Alternately, select the
primitive in the Object Hierarchy palette and click on the name. The fi eld will become editable and you can change
the name. Note that the object type will still appear next to the name in brackets. Any object in the Object Hierarchy
can be named in this manner, including Solid Object Groups.
Objects in the Object Hierarchy palette are always listed in alphabetical order. When you rename an object, it moves
to the appropriate position in the alphabetized list. This sometimes causes objects to disappear from the visible part of
the Hierarchy (you may need to scroll down or up to locate it).
Primitive objects appear in the Object Hierarchy palette beneath the Solid Object they belong to. Clicking the arrow to the
left of a Solid Object alternately shows and hides member objects.
Tutorial: Creating a Table
You can create a table using the Floor primitive and four Column primitives. To create a simple table, follow these
steps.
1 Select the File > New (Ctrl+N) menu command to create a new Scene.
2 Depending on the state of Atmosphere, there may or may not be a Scene Editor window visible. If not, create a
new view by selecting View>New View (Shift+Ctrl+N). A new Solid Object icon was automatically created in the
new fi le.
3 Make the Solid Object visible by opening the Stage folder and clicking on the Solid Object icon in the Scene
Hierarchy. A Solid Object icon will appear in the Scene window near the center.
