5.6 Switchers SM42A and SM82A VIDEOTEC
5.6.1 Description
The SM42A and SM82A switchers are products intended for video signal management. The SM42A and
SM82A models differ only in the number of input videos it is possible to connect (4 and 8).
There are two output videos and one of these can be operated directly by a VCR.
The SM42A/SM82A switcher can be used for switching, alarm management and on screen menu
programming functions and it is also provided with an optional auxiliary line that can be used for telemetry or
multiplexer unit control. Refer to the switcher manual for further relevant information.
5.6.2 Connection
T he communication cable is the standard cable (see § 3.3 - One keyboard per line: standard connection cable,
pag.16 ).
5.6.3 Configuring the switcher
The latest generation SM42A/SM82A switcher can be controlled by different types of keyboards and hence
emulates their respective protocols: to control the switcher with the DCT keyboard the MACRO protocol with
baudrate 38400 should be used.
Configure the DIP switch inside the switcher appropriately (all dips are OFF: Macro Protocol, baudrate 38400,
programming disabled).
5.6.4 Configuring the keyboard
During keyboard configuration, the COMUNICATIONS / VIDEO submenu (see § 4.2.3.1 - Video, pag.22),
should have the following settings:
SM42A SM82A
Type 4/2 VIDEOTEC 8/2 VIDEOTEC
Protocol MACRO MACRO
Baudrate 38400 38400
Address 1..4 (*) 1..4 (*)
Multiplexer ------------------- (**) ------------------- (**)
(*) If two keyboards are connected to the switcher this means two different identification numbers should be
defined (from 1 to 4).
(**) If required select the type (see § 334.2.4.4 - External multiplexer , pag.33).
5.6.5 Operational test
If the keyboard is connected directly with the switcher configured as above, using the telephone cable supplied
with the keyboard, it should be immediately possible to switch the input videos using the video/telemetry
controls.
5.6.6 Matrix setup
Matrix setup can be changed by entering the related menu. (see § 5.21.1 - Macro OSM , pag.93).
