When configuring the software such as using QSASSIGN, this is controller 1, and drive 0!
For example, when using SASIXUxx, the fields for the drive being partitioned must be set for
controller 1 and drive 0. When running QSASSIGN, the following command line may be used in this
example:
QSASSIGN 10:CPM 0 TO B:
XEBEC SLAVE DRIVE
NOTE: This method can be used with all cards, and must be used with the H89 H/Z67 card and the
H8 WH8-37 card, as they do not support multiple controller cards!
This method of connection has the first unit with the Xebec used as the master unit. The second,
or slave unit, is connected directly from the first Xebec to the second unit's Winchester drive. It
does not have its own Xebec controller. The advantage obviously, does not have to purchase
complete second unit, which would require about an additional $200, more than the stripped slave (of
Xebec controller card) would have required. The disadvantage is the Xebec redundancy i s missing;
if the Xebec on the primary unit fails, the second unit is also down. The choice must be yours. The
chances of this happening are remote, but it could happen. The failure rate of the Xebec 1410S
controller is very rare; especially after the 90 day break-in period.
In either of these cases, if you purchased the units from Quikdata and specified what they are to
be used for, all the proper cabling and all the proper jumping on both the Xebec and/or the
Winchester (in the case of the slave unit) will have already been done for you. All needed cables
will have been supplied. It will simply be a matter of connecting it all up and properly
configuring the software.
CONNECTION TO SLAVE DRIVE via XEBEC SLAVE METHOD
For the slave drive method, one Xebec controller is used, in the main subsystem cabinet,
connected to the computer host adapter with one 40 conductor ribbon cable (P2). The main
Winchester drive inside the cabinet with the Xebec is connected to the Xebec controller via a 34
pin connector on the Xebec (J1). The 20 pin cable on Winchester J2 is connected to the main
Winchester drive in the master cabinet. That completes the connections for the main subsystem.
There are many Xebec revisions out, and the board layout is different on each one, thus the plug
