MULTIPLE QUIKSTOR OPERATION
Besides supporting 15 and 33 Meg Winchester drives, this version of software supports multiple
Winchesters on the H8 and H89 computers under both HDOS and CP/M operating systems. The
second Winchester can be connected to the system in either of two ways; daisy chained from the
computer's host adapter card or chained off the Xebec controller in the primary QUIKSTOR
Winchester subsystem. Although the software can handle either (drive # off the same Xebec
controller or Controller # when daisy chaining off the host adapter), there are advantages and
disadvantages of each method.
NOTE: For either method, as viewing the unit from the top front all pin "l's", or cable stripes, go
toward the right. For the Tandon drive, U22 is the resistor pack. This must be removed from the
master unit when configuring for connection to slave drive. The slave must have the resistor and
the master drive must have it removed. W9 jumper on the Tand on drives is the Winchester select
socket. The first drive on a Xebec controller must be set for "1", whole the second, or slave,
must be set for "2".
DIASY CHAIN OFF COMPUTER HOST ADAPTER
NOTE: This method will only work with the H89 using the Magnolia 77320 SASI host adapter card! This is the
only host adapter that has control lines for handling two Xebec controllers. The Heath H/Z67 card
for the H89 and the Heath WH8-37 card for the H8 will only handle one controller!
This method of connection is similar to floppy drive connections, in that the user can connect a
second complete QUIKSTOR assembly to the first unit simply by daisy chaining the 40 conductor
ribbon cable and jumping the Xebec for the second drive (of course removing the resistor pack
from the second Xebec controller card). Disadvantage is an entire second unit must be
purchased complete with Xebec, which adds about $200 to the slave's price. Advantage is an
entire backup unit, Xebec controller and all. If the first unit goes dead, and perhaps the Xebec
went dead, you still have an entire other unit to work with!
CONNECTION AS DAISYCHAINED UNIT WITH dual Xebec cards
NOTE: This method cannot be used with the Z67 H89 card, and possibly for the WH8 -37 H8 card since
they appear not to support multiple Winchester chaining. It has not been tested yet and we
