selects symbols to speak words,
phrases or sentences.
Generating Language:
The Optimist 3 comes with your choice
of The Grid 2 or Speaking Dynamically
Pro (with Boardmaker Version 6)
communication software. The Grid 2
includes Picture Communication
Symbols (PCS) Metafiles. Use symbols
included with the software or import
your own digital photos or symbols.
Symbols:
Use DECtalk computer generated
speech – choose from 10 voice
personalities (if Optimist 3 is used with
The Grid 2) or a Microsoft text-to-
speech engine (if used with Speaking
Dynamically Pro). 
You may also record messages.
Speech:
Overlays available for AlphaBetic and
Iconic Versions. Iconic version
includes Unity 128 icons.
Symbols:
Now comes with RealSpeak Australian
voices (male and female). DECtalk
speech also available, providing a
choice of 10 voices. You can also add
up to 60 minutes of recorded
messages, including WAV files.
Aussie voices upgrade available for
existing Pathfinder Plus users.
Speech:
This version of the Pathfinder Plus
comes with a special Minspeak
Application Programme called the
"Adult Quick Learning
System." AQLS was designed for
literate adults with communication-
related disabilities, such as Motor
Neurone Disease and other
degenerative diseases.
Pathfinder Plus with AQLS

Age Range:
Infrared Environmental Controls - use
the Pathfinder to operate appliances
such as your TV and VCR. The
Pathfinder is a learning remote control,
meaning it can copy the remote control
signal from any remote control you
own.
Computer Access - the Pathfinder
comes with cables that connect it to a
Windows or Macintosh
computer. When connected correctly
using a free software programme such
as AACKeys or Serial Keys, the
Pathfinder will act like a computer
keyboard and mouse. You can also
programme special shortcut keys such
as website addresses.
Output:
AQLS (Adult Quick Learning
SystemsTM) is a word-based strategy
for generating language on the
Pathfinder. It allows individuals to
generate language with minimum
keystrokes. Word prediction helps to
speed up messages, and there is quick
access to 250 of the most common
English words.
There are 2 versions of AQLS:
• AQLS AlphaBetic Version - which
uses an enhanced QWERTY keyboard
and quick access words and phrases;
or
• AQLS Iconic Version - which
combines Unity 128 with quick access
words and phrases.
The AQLS package can also be
purchased for installation on any
DeltaTalker, Pathfinder, or
LiberatorTM. (Word Prediction is
available on the Pathfinder and
Liberator versions only.)
Generating Language:
