Step 3 - Capturing IR Codes
Before you begin to build your IR li-
brary, it is suggested that you make
certain that the batteries in the re-
mote controls are good and that all
other possible IR interference (light-
ing fixtures, emitters, sun light etc.)
is turned off or blocked.
1 With the program up an running,
press the Learn button located
in the lower left portion of the
window.
2 Aim your remote control at the
HTR-2400’s rear panel IR re-
ceiver.
3 Hold the button on the remote
control down for a second or two.
4 Release the remote button and
wait for the IRL program to re-
spond.
5A “Save As” window will appear.
Navigate to the folder that will
contain this code (i.e.
Sony...DVD) in the right window.
6Under “File name:”, name the
function (i.e. STOP) followed by
the text “.ir”. All infrared code
files must end in “.ir” with no
more than eight characters de-
scribing the function.
7 Press the OK button and repeat
these steps for all functions and
sources.
Hint: Once you have selected the “Learn IR” button, its
boarder will be outlined in bold. Simply pressing the Enter
key on your keyboard will engage the Learn (capture) func-
tion, saving time navigating the mouse. The same works for
after you have renamed the “.ir” file as simply hitting the
Enter key on your keyboard is the same as pressing OK.
Step 4 - Testing IR Codes
All IR testing is done using Port 1 on the HTR-2400
regardless if the source is going to be on another port.
Remember that the IR flasher is a relatively cheap
component and may not work even if appearing new.
It is advised to have several IR emitters available in
case one is bad. To test an IR command:
1 Connect a flasher to the component being tested
and plug it into Port 1.
2 Press the Test button in the software.
3 An Open File window will appear. Navigate to the
folder containing this components IR codes and
select the function you wish to test and press OK.
4 Repeat these steps for all sources and functions.
