Dolby Volume
The Cinema Rhapsody Mach 4 features Dolby
Volume, an intelligent volume control system that
resolves and improves audio frequency response
and volume inconsistencies. Dolby Volume
can be turned on or off as can be the two main
modules of Dolby Volume: Volume Modeler and
Volume Leveler.
Audio is meant to be played at a reference level
and Volume Modeler compensates for how people
perceive loudness by adjusting audio using a psy-
choacoustic model based on the equal loudness/
Fletcher‐Munson curves. Volume Modeler applies
different volume contours for different volume set-
tings, maintaining the same perceived listening
experience as the reference level experience.
Volume Leveler resolves volume inconsisten-
cies such as, those between input sources, or
broadcast stations. Volume Leveler continu-
ally measures the perceptual loudness of audio
content and dynamically applies multiband gain
modications so that the perceived loudness of
all audio content remains consistent. The Volume
Leveler amount parameter adjusts the amount of
leveling applied by the Volume Leveler. Its range
is from 0 to 10, with 10 being more leveling and
0 being less leveling.
When Half mode is on, the Volume Modeler does
not apply volume contour gains for playback levels
higher than reference level; just the volume set-
ting, as a at spectrum gain, is applied.
Cinema Reference mode is an optional user con-
trollable feature, which calibrates Dolby
Volume to work with content authored for cinema
level reproduction (i.e. DVD or Blu-ray discs).
Calibration Offset (–15 to +15 dB) provides the
ability to ne tune the calibration of a Dolby Vol-
ume product and compensate for things such as
speaker efciency or actual listening position.
From the front panel of the Cinema Rhapsody
Mach 4 while in the Setup Mode navigate to the
PRO SETUP using the Mode knob and press the
knob. Turn the Mode knob to ENHANCEMENTS
and press the Mode knob. Turn the Mode knob
to DOLBY VOLUME and press the Mode knob.
Use the Mode knob to select features and the
Input knob to adjust them.
